What are Elliptical Light Beam Angles?
About Light Beam Angles
AXTON offers lights and IR Illuminators in a variety of beam angles. The reason for variations is in order to match the field of view of a security camera and/or to make a light more efficient. When the light is directed in an angle instead of spreading outward in circle around the source, it is focused in a controlled beam. Focusing the light where it is needed requires less power and makes the light more efficient.
What is the difference between Round & Elliptical Angles
Most of our outdoor IR Illuminators and White lights are available in several “round” light beam angles and two elliptical/oval angle options. The round angles have one angle for example 90˚ and an elliptical angle has two angles 60˚ x 30˚. For our elliptical angle lights the 1st angle represents the angle of the light on the horizontal axis and the 2nd angle is the angle of the light on the vertical axis. For most security purposes focusing the light at ground level where people usually are is the most efficient use of the light’s power or watts.
The Advantage of Elliptical Light Beam Angles
An elliptical angle will reach further into the distance than a round angle light with the same horizontal distance and the same power consumption (watts). This optimizes the lights energy efficiency and focuses the light where it is needed, also reducing light pollution.
fig 1. Round beam angles have an equal vertical and horizontal light beam distance. Elliptical angles have an increased range & horizontal beam and a decreased vertical distance.
AXTON Beam Angle Options
We offer several angles including wide angle: 360˚ 270˚ and 180˚ panoramic lights. In addition to the angles we have listed on our website, we can also offer lights optimized for you site or application. Please see our Custom Lighting Page for details or contact us directly.
